MUN delegates engage in stimulating debates about international affairs while representing various countries of the United Nations. Delegates at UHSMUN develop their diplomacy, public speaking, and research skills by participating in conferences in and around California.

What is MUN?
Model United Nations is a program designed to simulate the international governing body, the United Nations. Over 20,000 student delegates worldwide interested in international relations and world events take the roles of foreign diplomats and represent their respective countries in a simulated session of a body of the United Nations. Thousands of high schools across the nation and universities such as Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and UC Berkeley hold conferences where issues are debated in committees, just like in the real United Nations. These committees, also known as intergovernmental organizations, include the the General Assembly, Economical and Social Council, the Counter-Terrorist Committee, the World Health Organization, the Security Council and more. Students focus on the issues that are actually debated in each respective committee, but altogether every type of world issue is discussed. Students actively engage in research, debate, and conflict resolution to develop solutions for real-life international problems.
Our Program
The Model United Nations club at University High School has become a very established and recognized Model United Nations organization in Southern California, having won numerous club awards at conferences ranging from the University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Irvine, Tustin High School, Mission High School, to other locations. As a Model United Nations delegate, one can expect to develop essential research, debate, public-speaking, organization, and critical-thinking skills, as well as a better awareness of the international community. The delegates from UHSMUN have also had other substantial achievements. Our members consistently earn Commendation, Outstanding, Research, and the coveted Gavel (Best Delegate) Awards throughout the year. Members from our club have been accepted and gone on to prestigious learning institutes which include: Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, UPenn, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Brown, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCI and other schools of higher learning.
